ComFerm ApS

ComFerm ApS is a startup who develops and produces Biocyclers. Biocyclers produce liquid nitrogen fertilizer, hygienic compost, clean water and CO₂-neutral heat from waste biomass. And CO₂ rich outlet air is perfect for CO₂ fertilization in greenhouses. Biocyclers thus are truly Bio-re-cyclers.

Biocyclers are especially usable in organic production where the nutrient loop can be closed in a hygienically safe way, and where spontaneuos losses of nitrogen from current agricultural practises can be avoided.

Animal manure, gren manure crops, garden clippings, household waste, industrial biological waste streams, sludge from waste water treatment – all of them start a spontaneous composting process when stored in large quantities. Phrased in a popular language: they rot. Aa nicer way to put it is to say they are decomposed by microorganisms. This decomposition releases heat and with the release comes CO₂ and ammonia which both of them go directly into the atmosphere and work as drivers of climate change and polluters of waterbodies.

If Biocyclers were used to treat these biomasses, the heat could be made value of and would displace use of fossils. But more importantly, use of Biocyclers has the potential to increase the yields form organic agriculture by more than 20% via retention of the otherwise lost nitrogen and turning it into stable nitrogen fertilizer and compost ready for use in growing crops.

As the process in the Biocycler runs at temperatures high enough to kill pathogens effectively the nutrients in household wastes can safely be returned to the soil, thus closing the nutrient loop.

The Biocyclers in effect can disconnect organic production from conventional production and can take agriculture much closer to environmental neutrality and feed a growing world population.
